Be A Superstar

I kept on watching the videos. I guess I played it twice or three times. Then I watched other clips. I always loved the way the video clips made my mouth open wide in amazement. Those people sure could fly.

Since the lock-out shortened season started, I’ve kept tabs on the top 10 highlights of each game per week. I couldn’t help but stare in awe at the amazing plays, assists, dunks and blocks by the NBA superstars. How I wish I could do that too.

Don’t you ever wish to be a superstar?

In the NBA, the superstars are the go-to-guys. When things go out of hand or when the tide needs to change, just toss them the ball and their shots would most likely go in. Hand them the ball at the most crucial moments and their play making abilities and accurate shooting would change the whole pace of the game. The ball always goes into their most capable hands, and so does endorsements, fans, and luxury. Men like Kobe Bryant, Kevin Durant, Derrick Rose, LeBron James, Dwyane Wade, among others have become household names because of their capability as NBA players.

Sirius, or the Dog Star, is the brightest star in all the universe from an earthly standpoint. Canopus is the second brightest. Third is the Alpha Centauri a.k.a. Rigil Kentaurus. These are the top three brightest stars in the galaxy based on a human perspective. Next to these three are Arcturus, Vega, Capella, Rigel, Procyon, Achernar and Betelguese. In terms of size, the largest star is the Canis Majoris. I bet there are other brighter stars or bigger stars, but these sure are super stars for the human eye.

A prima donna used to refer to the primier lead singer in an opera company before it became what it means today. All the good roles or lead roles are given to her. Much like a best actress on TV or movies, these lady or ladies get all the attention, the endorsements and record deals. Of course, an opera could only be afforded by high class societies during those times, thus, a prima donna gets all the high class treatment. She’s the brightest star, so to speak.

Don’t you ever wish to be super star?

We all dream to be as big or bigger as the few chosen superstars whether it be acting, sports or business. We all wish to be at the top – at par with all successful people any gallery could record. But to what end?

For all we know, most of those who are on top might have badgered, bitten, hit, kicked, and crawled their way on top. Athletes practice every day. Businessmen, lawyers and doctors burn the midnight candle on a daily basis. Actors and actresses hone their crafts whether it be acting or just looking good on camera.  The old adage, no pain, no gain still rings true if you want to reach the top. You have to be really serious to shine as bright as Sirius. More so, sometimes, even at the expense of the most important things in life like family, friendships, relationships and, even, God.

Yet, on a different plane, on ultimately larger perspective, we are all destined, so to speak, to be superstars. It is in God’s plan. It is God’s desire for each of us to be brighter than any star. He’s that serious. We can be brighter than Sirius.

“We have also a more sure word of prophecy; whereunto ye do well that ye take heed, as unto a light that shineth in a dark place, until the day dawn, and the day star arise in your hearts:” 2 Peter 1:19

For this reason we are all called. “But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light;” 1 Peter 2:9

We are called out of darkness to become the superstars. We are destined to shine but not of our own light but of the light that God has given us.  For it is the God who commanded light to shine out of darkness, who has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.” 2 Corintians 4:6

We need not to be afraid if we cannot become the next Michael Jordan or Kobe Bryant. We shouldn’t fret if we can’t even cut it to be an actor or actress or a singer or dancer or all around performer. For all we know, we are already on the path to brightness. We are being prepared to be stars. Do you still want to be a superstar?

What kind of superstar do you want to be?

Those who are wise shall shine
Like the brightness of the firmament,
And those who turn many to righteousness
Like the stars forever and ever.

Daniel 12:3
