Democracy – n. a state of society characterized by formal equality of rights and privileges.

This month proved to be so filled with issues and controversies. Just weeks ago, a famous sports celebrity made comments about a rising “minority” group. The sports man was ostracized for making comments and speaking out his mind. He was even stripped of endorsements, so I heard. As if it wasn’t worse, he was bombarded by insults and complaints from worldwide members of the said group of people.

This is democracy.

Well, come to think of it, a few hundred or so years back, you couldn’t even voice out your opinion to anyone. Start an uprising and you get killed instantly without any civil exchange. All across the annals of history we could hear of monarchs and rulers who’s iron hand got way heavier than iron. It was so heavy, thousands to millions of lives were spent.

History is replete with tales of evil people performing evil acts. Sadly they are so many in number that Listverse has been able to feature many top 10 lists of evil humans – men, women, and even children. This list looks at ten people from history who were especially cruel and who, in many cases, are remembered for that reason alone.

10. Empress Wu

9, Qin Shi Huang

8. Godfrey of Bouillon

7. Herod the Great

6. King John

5. Tamerlane the Great

4. Nero

3. Caligula

2. Attila the Hun

1. Genghis Khan

Well, in contrast to today, these men and women mentioned in this list were all hungry for power and bloodlust. They were all evil so to speak. You could even ask how evil is evil. Power, fame, and wealth never made any man satisfied, or even happy.

Remember what the Lord said:

“Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal;but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” – Matthew 6:19-21

Our treasures are supposedly those that we cannot keep but those that we could give away. Treasures are actually meant to be given away, so is power, wealth and fame. Give power to those who are weak, give wealth to the poor, and give all fame and glory to the God who could give you happiness.

Live this way freely and see the results!
