Perks of Dying

“You will not certainly die,” the serpent said to the woman.

Genesis 3:4

That’s still the biggest lie on the planet. You will not surely get caught. You will not surely get sick. You will not surely be imprisoned. You will not surely be punished. You will not surely be bankrupt.

As if those words were enough assurance. At first, maybe they are. There is assurance that you will not get the consequences of what you did immediately. You’re not totally off the hook, it just gives you more time to ponder things out and realize that you have been deceived.

The moment our fore parents were deceived, our fate was sealed to die. Death to all sinners, and sinners we all are.

cemetary_mainThis month was a long stretch. If you have been following this blog, this month is all about death, dying and the like. I know it’s gruesome. Come to think of it, I just realized it this week. After all, who wants death? Who wants to die?

Despite all those people who claim to have had near death experiences, death still remains a mystery that no one would like to discover. Who would if you can’t go back to the living and share the experience? So it is silently agreed that no one wants to die.

Yet after the fall of man, we still die. And then there are those who enjoy the death of other people. They enjoy the senseless deaths for their entertainment, for their crooked principles, and for other reasons that are not really reasons.

Recently there has been a surge of deaths. There’s that young boy who was shot down by a police officer without thinking that it was a kid. There are the girls who were raped and murdered (not just here but all over the word). Then, there are those people who wanted to help others but were brutally murdered in the hands of men with crooked principles and backward beliefs.

This is really a sin sick world.

bucketlistI cannot tell you how to live your life. I cannot dictate what it takes to make living in this life enjoyable despite the fear of a looming end. I am not knowledgeable in that. I can suggest movies, websites and many other things but that won’t cut it.

I can tell you though that we were tricked into receiving death. We were deceived into a death sentence. So now we live in fearful agony that we are going to die sooner or later.

Despite all this, God knew that we were deceived. Like the parent that He is, He created a plan to make death the key so we can be saved. His plan hinges on a simple idea that death is needed to save us from death.

Weird huh?

He set about to do that ground breaking work that spanned many many years in the making. Finally when the time is ripe, God himself came down and died for us.

But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.

Romans 5:8

He came in the form of His son, Jesus Christ, who died on the cross to save us from the death curse that we accepted – the curse that we all fear and were cheated into accepting. God’s love  was too strong for us that His death enabled us to pay the price of our sin. He decided to take the punishment of our fore parent’s sin so that we could be saved. A death saved us from death. The result was life.

If in this life only we have hope in Christ, we are of all men most miserable.

But now is Christ risen from the dead, and become the first fruits of them that slept.

For since by man came death, by man came also the resurrection of the dead.

For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive.

 1 Corinthians 15:19-22

So why are we still dying?

I don’t know.

What I do now is that the same God will come again to claim us as His own. For this to happen, we must totally surrender ourselves to Him. Allow ourselves to die in spirit and in our will so that His will may reign. This way, not even death will keep us from living for Him.

Then cometh the end, when he shall have delivered up the kingdom to God, even the Father; when he shall have put down all rule and all authority and power.

 1 Corinthians 15:24

This is love. God’s love at His finest. A parent doing everything for His children so that they maybe a happy family again. That is love that will not let you go. A love that will transcend anything.

For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Romans 8:38-39

So what do we to do?

We are to surrender our lives to God and allow ourselves to die. Death after all is not a bad thing after this. Death in Christ is actually better.

For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain.

Philippians 1:21
